Biography

Born on the Long Lake in TA 2993, Alditha lost her father to illness when she was seven years old. While her mother remained weakened by the same ailment, Alditha and her sister Aldwyn spent much of their time in the presence of their grandfather, Guthlac "the Old", who regaled them with fanciful tales of his childhood, especially of the coming of the Dragon to Esgaroth, where the family dwelt at the time. Whether real or fabricated, the young Alditha was captivated by these stories, and longed to reach the fabled lands beyond the mountains where the strange "holbytlan" lived. When her sister married, Alditha too left her home, stealing Guthlac's long-unused sword and striking out with a group of dwarven merchants to make the journey to Eriador.
Upon her arrival in Bree, Alditha suffered feelings of homesickness and guilt at having so abandoned her family, but she recovered quickly under the thrill of new discoveries.
Not long after her arrival in Eriador, Alditha came to the Library of the Randirim after having heard of its great number of rare tomes. Upon meeting the Library's custodian, the elf Esslar, Alditha decided to join the organization and stay at the Library on a semi-permanent basis.
Most recently, she has purchased her own home in the Shire at 6 Harrow Road in Undervale, sharing it intermittently with her good friend Crawa. She has also been reunited with one of her family from Dale, her cousin Gunolf, who has made the journey to Eriador as well.

Appearance

Alditha is constantly laden with strange artifacts and curiosities filling her pockets and pack, and is most often found prowling some ruin or another in search of more. She carries a sturdy walking stick and the (rather rusty) sword stolen from her grandfather with her always, though she barely uses the latter at all. She is exceedingly energetic, though lean and bony, and has been known to walk great distances with little rest. She keeps her hair tied in a (frequently messy) bun in a semi-effective attempt to keep it in line and out of the way.

Notes

  • Alditha is extremely talkative when the mood hits her, and has been known to speak to herself, to animals, and to inanimate objects if need be.
  • She is considerably short-sighted, and can be seen holding parchments up to her nose in order to read them (this earned her the rather unenviable nickname of "Squinty" from the older children of the family). Most recently, she and Esslar have fashioned some makeshift "glasses" that allow her to read more comfortably.
