Fanaur

From Library of the Randirim

A spear handed down from father to son through Garaf's bloodline. The spear is made in the ancient style of the elves, marked as one from the kingdom of Doriath. Though it is an ancient weapon, it has been well-cared for and was keenly made so that it is still of extremely high quality even though it is several millennia old.

The spear takes its name from an inscription that starts at the blade and then wraps around the half to the tip, written in "ancient runes". The first word of the inscription, and the one from which the weapon takes its name, is "Fanaur" (lit. "Cloud-fire" or, in this context, read as Lightning). The rest has not yet been translated by Garaf but is relayed below.

Inscription running along Fanaur:

Runes inscribed on Fanaur

Fanaur lilta min taur,
Amath dor ah aglar glir,
O in lhu deri arnor ah ithil,
Ned meleth ah celeg innas ur uilhu.

Translation:
Lightning dances among the woods,
Shielding land with a glorious song,
From the time before sun and moon,
Of love and grace that burn ever-long.
