This is a timeline of the events in Middle-earth. Items in italics are from the lore of the books/game and may or may not involve any player characters. These were all pulled from Chronicle of Arda or hobbled together from quests and such in the game. Anything that's specific to LotRO will be marked by (). Feel free to add your own events to the timeline but please refrain from making your own posts italics or changing anyone else's events without speaking to them first.
For ease of navigation the timeline is broken into 500 year segments but this is to aid reference only and does not imply any actual division.

- Foundation of the Elven-kingdoms in the west of Middle-earth, Mithlond and Lindon.
32
- Arrival of the Edain in Númenor. Elrond's brother Elros becomes their first King, taking the name Tar-Minyatur.
c.40
- Around this time Dwarves out of the Blue Mountains migrate eastwards and settle alongside the Longbeards in Khazad-dûm.
442
- Death of Elros Tar-Minyatur. He is succeeded as King of Númenor by his son Vardamir, who immediately abdicates in favour of his own son Tar-Amandil.
443
- Vardamir Nólimon was officially held to have ruled Númenor in this year, though in fact he had passed the Sceptre directly to his son Tar-Amandil.

- After a long period of secrecy following the War of Wrath, Sauron begins his resurgence in Middle-earth.

- Birth of Silmariën, daughter and eldest child of King Tar-Elendil of Númenor.

- Birth of Isilmë, second daughter of King Tar-Elendil of Númenor.

- Tar-Amandil surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Elendil.

- Vëantur becomes the first Númenórean to make the journey back to Middle-earth.

- Birth of Valandil, later to become the first Lord of Andúnië.

- Second voyage of Aldarion to Middle-earth.
740
- Tar-Elendil surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Meneldur.
750
- Foundation of Eregion.
- Foundation of the Guild of Venturers by Aldarion.
771
- Birth of Erendis.
870
- Wedding of Aldarion and Erendis.
877
- Spring Aldarion's flagship Hirilondë is launched.
883
- Tar-Meneldur surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Aldarion.
985
- Death of Erendis, apparently by drowning.
c.1000
- Sauron settles in the land of Mordor and begins the building of Barad-dûr.
S.A. 1001-1500
1075
- Tar-Aldarion surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his daughter, who becomes the first Ruling Queen, Tar-Ancalimë.
1200
- Sauron comes to the Elves of Eregion in a fair guise, and begins to teach them.
1280
- Tar-Anárion succeeds his mother Tar-Ancalimë to become King of Númenor.
1394
- Tar-Anárion surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Súrion.
c.1500
- The first of the Rings of Power are made in Eregion.
S.A. 1501-2000
1556
- Tar-Súrion surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his daughter, who becomes Queen Tar-Telperiën.
c.1590
- Completion of the Three Rings in Eregion.
c.1600
- The first building of Barad-dûr is completed.
c.1600
- Sauron forges the One Ring in Orodruin, and reveals his true purposes to the Elves.
1693
- War begins between the Elves and Sauron.
1695
- Elrond is sent out by Gil-galad to aid in the defence of Eregion.
1697
- The foundation of Rivendell.
- Eregion is destroyed by Sauron's forces, and Celebrimbor slain.
1699
- Sauron's forces gain control of Eriador.
1700
- Ciryatur brings a Númenórean fleet to Middle-earth, and drives back Sauron's invading forces.
1701
- Sauron's forces are overwhelmed by the Númenóreans, and Sauron himself is driven back to Mordor.
1731
- On the death of Queen Tar-Telperiën, Tar-Minastir becomes King of Númenor.
c.1800
- The Númenóreans begin to colonise and exploit Middle-earth.
1869
- Tar-Minastir surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor.
1986
- Birth of Tar-Atanamir's heir, later King Tar-Ancalimon.
S.A. 2001-2500
2029
- Tar-Ciryatan surrenders the Sceptre of Númenor. He is succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Atanamir.

- First appearance of the Nazgûl.
2251
- Political divisions begin to emerge in Númenor
- Death of King Tar-Atanamir the Great of Númenor. He is succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Ancalimon.
2280
- The Haven of Umbar is first fortified by the Númenóreans.
2350
- Pelargir is founded.
2386
- Death of Tar-Ancalimon. He is succeeded by Tar-Telemmaitë.
S.A. 2501-3000
2526
- Death of Tar-Telemmaitë. He is succeeded by his daughter, who becomes the third and last of the Ruling Queens, Tar-Vanimeldë.
2637
- Death of Queen Tar-Vanimeldë of Númenor. Her true Heir is her son Alcarin, but the Sceptre is seized by her husband Herucalmo, who takes the name Tar-Anducal.
2657
- Death of the false King Tar-Anducal of Númenor. He is legitimately succeeded by his son, who becomes King Tar-Alcarin.
2709
- Birth of Adûnakhôr, later to rule Númenor as King Ar-Adûnakhôr.
2737
- Death of Tar-Alcarin. He is succeeded as King of Númenor by Tar-Calmacil.
2825
- Death of King Tar-Calmacil of Númenor. There is some confusion over the succession, but he appears to have been succeeded by his son, who became King Tar-Ardamin.
2899
- Ar-Adûnakhôr becomes King of Númenor.
2962
- Death of Ar-Adûnakhôr. He is succeeded as King of Númenor by his son, who rules as Ar-Zimrathôn.

- Approximate year of the birth of Amandil.

- Death of Ar-Zimrathôn. He is succeeded as King of Númenor by his son, who rules as Ar-Sakalthôr.

- Death of Ar-Sakalthôr. He is succeeded as King of Númenor by his son, who rules as Ar-Gimilzôr.

- Birth of Pharazôn, later Ar-Pharazôn, King of Númenor.

- Probable date of the birth of Elendil.

- Death of Ar-Gimilzôr. He is succeeded as King of Númenor by his son, who rules as Tar-Palantir.

- Ar-Pharazôn, last King of Númenor, usurps the throne.

- Ar-Pharazôn sails to Middle-earth.

- Sauron submits himself to Ar-Pharazôn as a prisoner, and is taken back to Númenor. There, he begins to corrupt the Númenóreans.

- Probable date of the birth of Meneldil.

- Convinced by Sauron to attack Aman, Ar-Pharazôn begins building his Great Armament.

- Amandil abandons Númenor and sails into the West to seek the aid of the Valar.

- Ar-Pharazôn sails into the West to assail the Valar. The Downfall of Númenor.

- Approximate date of the construction of many great towers and citadels, including Minas Ithil and Isengard.
- Arnor and Gondor are founded by Elendil and his sons Isildur and Anárion.
- Sauron returns in secret to the land of Mordor.
3419
- Birth of Garaf.
3429
- Sauron launches an assault on Gondor, and captures Minas Ithil.
3430
- Formation of the Last Alliance.
- Probable date of the birth of Valandil, youngest of the four sons of Isildur.
3431
- The forces of the newly-formed Last Alliance of Elves and Men assemble in Imladris under their leaders, Gil-galad and Elendil.
3434
- Sauron's forces are defeated in the Battle of Dagorlad. The Siege of Barad-dûr begins.
3440
- Anárion slain in the Siege of Barad-dûr.
3441
- Defeat of Sauron by the Last Alliance. Barad-dûr is destroyed, but both Gil-galad and Elendil are lost. The Nazgûl go into the shadows.
