The part commented out about the father being present at birth - okay. Fair, that. I can see where the people of Rohan might see that differently than, say, people of the shire.

Was there a comment about how some of the examples might serve better for modern characters than LotR ones? Care to cite any specific examples, so I can think about re-working parts? Or was the one listed above really the gist of that?

A "quickie" version...

I'll provide a "quick creation" page as well for people who either don't want to put this much effort in or who are daunted by the idea of going this far. I'll probably work on that tonight.

A quick and dirty page would be nice, and then readers could come to this one to get further ideas to flesh out their chars. I'm just concerned that if a reader comes to LoR looking for ideas they might get intimidated by a shrinking scrollbar, if you catch my meaning.

As for specific examples, I really only grabbed the first one I came across: "Why? Well, if your parents really liked Mexican food, even though they lived in Wisconsin, there's a pretty good chance you'll like it too, since it's what you're used to eating. If you grew up listening to classical music, that might be your preference in programmed radio stations in your car. "

I gather that you're using RL examples to make your point but we could also toss in some lore-based examples at the same time. For instance we could say something to the effect of: Why? Well, if your parents really pipeweed from the Shire, even though they lived in Dale, there's a pretty good chance you'll like it too, since it's what you're used to. If you grew up listening to elven music, then you might prefer that over dwarven tunes.

Heh, yeah. As you said, I was trying to put it in terms that people would understand more easily. I'll clean it up a bit tonight along your suggestions as well as making an "EZ Form" for the less "hardcore" RPers. --Hitorichan

Renaming?

Is it possible to rename this from, say...

"Creating Characters"

to

"Character Creation 201"

Then I can create a "Character Creation 101"... or something like that?

Or should we instead have...

Creating Characters Creating Characters EZ Form

There we go. I've moved it over to Creating Characters 201. Do you think "Creating Characters - Advanced" and "Creating Characters - Beginner" might be easier to understand? There's a Move option in the little pane on the top to the right that will let you rename a page but I'm not sure if anyone else can move pages. I think you can, but I haven't tested it.
